WBIA is pleased to announce that Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) Secretary Glenn Ledet will be the featured speaker at our March luncheon. Secretary Ledet will provide a comprehensive update focused exclusively on Westbank transportation priorities — highlighting major infrastructure projects that are shaping the region’s economic future.
Spotlight: Peters Road Bypass & Bridge Project
A key focus of the presentation will be the long-anticipated Peters Road Bypass and Bridge project, designed to create a new direct connection between Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes.
The project will extend Peters Road (LA 3017) from Jefferson Parish across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway via a high-level fixed bridge to Walker Road in Plaquemines Parish, ultimately connecting to LA Highway 23. Once complete, this corridor will provide a critical new east-west linkage for commuters, freight movement, and port-related traffic.
Secretary Ledet is expected to discuss design progress, environmental considerations, funding strategy, and next steps toward construction.
Additional Westbank Project Updates
In addition to Peters Road, Secretary Ledet will provide updates on several other high-priority Westbank initiatives, including expected completion of the Harvey Tunnel Rehabilitation, Westbank Expressway Improvements, and long-range planning efforts connected to the future I-49 South corridor. These efforts aim to improve freight efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and strengthen the Westbank’s connection to statewide and national transportation networks.
A Focus on Economic Growth & Resilience
Secretary Ledet will highlight how these critical projects support LA DOTD’s broader strategy to improve mobility, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and drive economic growth across Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes. As the Westbank continues to serve as a hub for port activity, energy, logistics, and small business development, strategic transportation investment remains essential to long-term prosperity. WBIA members and regional leaders are encouraged to attend this luncheon to hear updates on key projects and join the conversation about the future of Westbank infrastructure.
